Resist Globalization and Corporate Control

The United States – by Mussolini's own definition – could now be called a Fascist state, thanks to a combination of expansionist and imperialist pretensions, extreme nationalism, and the continued systematic and unchecked promotion of corporate power. Further classic trends are an emphasis on nationalism, the militarization of society, identifying 'The Leader' as the nation, a constant state of fear and anxiety heightened by the state, repressive laws that shred constitutional guarantees of due process, the desire to assume global hegemony, a populace that tends to believe the slogans and lies it's fed and a timid opposition that barely contests the administration's reckless adventurism abroad and police-state policies at home.

The Centre for Research on Globalization is an excellent site reflecting the Canadian group's work in this area, as is Globalise Resistance in the UK, and The Massachusetts Anti-Corporate Clearinghouse; they are citing as criminals some manufacturers of weapons used in Iraq.

It was announced at the end of April that the US government is to use pro-Zionist, Christian extremist groups with a Mission of being a "unique tool in the Lord's ministry plan for the world" to broadcast 'news' to Muslim Iraq. This appears to be only part of a Christian Fundamentalist and western 'crusade' being carried out against Islam in the region by Bush.

The 'Bush cartel' is now moving forward with another of its aims in effectively 'annexing' Iraq. It is awarding extraordinary lucrative contracts (without bidding) to carry out work there to its colleagues and supporters. These have made necessary to some extent by the destruction cased by the military itself. Among excellent sites providing background on these scandalous deals are CorpWatch and this well-researched page on Halliburton, another 'Whore of War' in the cartel. There is good evidence that the US Department of Defense agreed a deal with Halliburton for 'reconstruction' in Iraq long before the administration's attack on Iraq was public; moreover, there is a suggestion in the same source that, had it not been for the current contract, Halliburton may have had to file for bankruptcy.

In a move of breathtaking arrogance, aggression and selfishness, the US bullied the UN Security Council in late May into setting up an indefinite americanized 'market opportunity' in the rapidly declining Iraq with no safeguards for human rights and no respect for Iraqis. News is now emerging that this will extend to full-scale 'privatization' of most or all Iraqi assets to the benefit of American companies!

Similar senses of entitlement to resources from the rest of the world are directly responsible for the war in the Congo – probably the biggest sustained human tragedy since World War II, and causing 2,500 deaths each day. This is being fought in part so that corporations (particularly those in the United States) can have access to raw materials necessary for the manufacture of consumer electronics.
